Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data DNS Checker handles when you use the tool, why, and the rights you have under the GDPR and the Turkish KVKK. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run a fast, free, abuse-resistant service.
Who is responsible
DNS Checker is operated as a free, non-profit tool. For any privacy request, contact the email address at the end of this page. Requests are answered within 30 days.
What we collect
When you run a lookup we record the domain and record type you searched, a masked version of your IP address (the last block is removed, e.g. 203.0.113.0), the country and internet provider derived from your IP, and the time of the request. We do not store your full IP address, your city, or a precise location.
When you submit the contact form we receive the name, email, optional phone number, subject and message you enter, so we can reply.
Why we process it (legal basis)
- To operate the service and return DNS results (legitimate interest).
- To prevent abuse, spam and automated attacks (legitimate interest).
- To produce anonymous, aggregate usage statistics (legitimate interest).
- To answer messages you send us (your request / consent).
Anonymous statistics
Usage is measured in an anonymized form. Your IP is masked before it is stored or forwarded, and only country-level location is kept. This anonymized query data is processed through a monitoring channel and through Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that runs without cookies. These statistics cannot be used to identify you.
Cookies and local storage
We store a small amount of data in your browser: your theme and language preference, a cookie-consent flag, your recent lookups (only on your device), and a flag that remembers you passed the human check for 24 hours so you are not asked again. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Third parties
Your lookups are sent to public DNS resolvers such as Google and Cloudflare to fetch the records. The forms are protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which is subject to Google's own privacy policy. Country flags are loaded from a public image service. We never sell your data.
Retention
The anonymized query log is capped and older entries are automatically overwritten. Preference cookies stay until you clear them or they expire.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and KVKK you can ask us what data relates to you, request its correction or deletion, object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time. Because we only keep anonymized technical data for lookups, most requests concern contact messages you have sent. Email us to exercise any of these rights.
International transfers
The service runs on servers in Turkey and the European region. Some third-party providers listed above may process data outside your country under their own safeguards.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service evolves. The current version is always available on this page.
